Ultimate Coffee Smoothie

I started making this smoothie back in 2018 in the mornings before I headed off to work at my office job. Made with organic whole food ingredients and blended up in mere seconds, I think it’s a great alternative to the iced capps or coffees (aka sickly sweet, factory farmed, tap water and microplastic riddled gunk) at Tim Hortons. If you tend to rush in the mornings or are always on the go, it might be worthwhile to wake up a bit earlier to give yourself a few extra minutes to blend this up and catch the sunrise outside, then put the lid on and bring it to work. You could even double the recipe and make two servings if you’d like to share it with someone.

This smoothie might be nice and quick for rushed mornings or a preworkout, but note that especially with the addition of the banana, this recipe is rather blood sugar spiking (and mismatched with my latitude of 44 here!). You could swap banana for frozen cauliflower or apple chunks if you prefer. This smoothie could be paired with some high quality protein on the side, like quick hard boiled, pasture raised, corn and soy-free chicken or duck eggs, for better long term results (hormone magic, and so on and so on).

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed organic spring water coffee or wild chaga cold brew (for coffee, I like Swiss water process decaf, low mycotoxin - Kion is a good brand for this. I definitely prefer the taste of coffee in this recipe)

  • 1 cup spring water or grass-fed goat kefir

  • 1 frozen organic banana, chopped, or an equal amount of frozen organic cauliflower or even organic apples (I like to freeze a whole bunch in advance)

  • 1 tbsp raw organic cacao powder

  • 1 tbsp organic ground flax seed

  • 1 tsp organic chia seeds

  • 1/4 tsp ground organic Ceylon cinnamon

  • spoonful of organic PB, tahini, or other nut/seed butter (ideally with activated nuts/seeds)

  • 1/4 cup GF organic sprouted oats

  • 1 scoop grass-fed collagen (optional)

Method

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender. Blend for about 1 minute or until the oats and frozen ingredients are smooth. Serve in a glass jar or your favourite reusable thermos. Enjoy!

Tips

  • It REALLY helps to have a lot of the ingredients prepared/frozen ahead of time. On the weekend or if you have time, pre-brew a large batch of coffee in spring water and store it in the fridge. Chop up your apples/bananas/what have you, then store them in the freezer. When ready to make your smoothie in the morning, everything’s all set!

  • Lots of the ingredients are sprouted and activated for maximum nutrient absorption and digestibility—I enjoy them often. To skip the hassle of sourcing these ingredients or if you don’t have the time, it might be easier and more bioavailable to source nitrate-free organic pasture raised bacon and/or pasture raised eggs instead, then pre-boil the eggs and quickly fry up the bacon on a non-toxic surface.
