Root & STEM Magazine

Root & STEM is a nationally recognized, biannual print and online STEAM resource to support Canadian K–12 educators in teaching digital skills. Each issue is free and features articles, activities, and lesson plans with a specific focus on STEAM education through creativity. Root & STEM provides a holistic approach to education, merging heart and head while pushing the boundaries for how Canada thinks about science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

Editorial design is one of my favourite things to do! Throughout 5 consecutive print and digital issues of Root & STEM, I helped our team remotely with layout design, proofreading, formatting and optimizing image files, preparing files for print, taking on a project management role, and even contributed custom (not done with AI) editorial illustrations.

Our team also had the Affiliate RGD (Association of Registered Graphic Designers) designation which ensured industry-standard quality, competence, and the highest level of accessibility currently possible. It’s been an honour to contribute to the growing landscape of Canadian publishing and to help Root & STEM evolve while remaining a direct reflection and authentic voice of the real life communities it serves.
